Connie Chen has low round of the day to draw level with leader

Connie Chen carded the low round on day two of the Sanlam SA Women’s Amateur when she signed for a one-under-par 71 to tie with Lara Weinstein and Kim Williams on 144. This should make for an exciting final round on the final day of the stroke play championship tomorrow at Port Elizabeth golf course, fondly known as The Hill.

15-year old Lara Weinstein shot a 73 to draw level with Williams who dropped three strokes to card 75 today. Namibian Bonita Bredenhann and veteran Sandra Winter also returned 73 while Tiffany Avern-Taplin carded a disappointing 80 after her first round of 70. Henriette Frylinck also dropped back with a second round 76 to join Bonita Bredenhann on 147, three strokes behind the leaders.

The Championship Division teed off at 7am today and played in perfect conditions with only a slight breeze to contend with. As a result, the lengthened course did not deter the players from producing good scores. These conditions look to prevail for the final round when the final three ball tees off at 12.30pm tomorrow.

In the 10 to 18 Division, Namibian Letitia Brink leads on 166 (82, 84) from Humayra Saloojee on 169 (86, 83) and Hentie Clack (83, 87) and Imkeleen Meyer (84, 86) on 170.
