Connie breaks another course record to win North West Champs
17-Year old Waterkloof junior Connie Chen won the North West Championship with a 10 under-par 134, breaking the Potchefstoom golf course record with her first round 66 on the 72-par course. A four-under 68 in the afternoon round sealed her championship win by eight strokes from Alana van Greuning on 142 (67, 75).
North West President Rina van Zijl commented that the course was very wet after the recent Vaal River floods and not easy. However she said that Connie stayed on the fairways, remained calm and confident and was a real pleasure to watch. Connie added that she had an eagle in each round and managed to convert a number of birdie putts.
Nicole Garcia (74, 70) and Kim Williams (68, 76) tied in third place on 144 and Henriette Frylinck finished one stroke back on 145 (75, 70).
The North West closed championship was won by Elru Botha on a count out from Nicole Becker on 149.
