Central Gauteng have the look of champions
Central Gauteng look like champions in the making after beating handsomely, by 8.5 points to 3.5, host Union Western Province in the third round of the SA Challenge Cup being played at the Metropolitan Golf Club in Cape Town.
With this win Central Gauteng sit pretty at the top of the Log on a full house of six points, two clear of Gauteng North and SA Junior Teams, from three matches.
The log leaders take on the Presidents Team on Thursday where a special performance will be required from all members of the Presidents Team if they are to make any impression upon the pace setters.
The Presidents Team are yet to win a match. They did come close on Wednesday halving their match against a South African Universities team.
In the only other match played on Wednesday, the SA Juniors, like the day prior, put on a good performance beating Gauteng North by 7.5 points to 4.5. The morning started nicely for the Gauteng North team, finishing the foursomes with 3 points out of a possible 4.
The young junior side came out in a more serious frame of mind for the afternoon singles, winning five matches and halving three. Taking a handsome haul of 6.5 points out of a possible 8 sunk any hope Gauteng North had of exploiting their strong start.
On Thursday Gauteng North take on Western Province and the SA Juniors play the students.
