Cape Girls perform well at Selborne Country Club

Milnerton Golf Club’s Cara Gorlei picked up the championship trophy when the Nomads KZN Girls Amateur Championship was played at the stunning Selborne Country Club on 2 and 3 December. She finished on 227 (75, 78, 74).

2011 SA Girls Champion Bianca Theron from Kuils River was runner-up on 230 (74, 75, 81) while Mowbray’s Sammy Barber and Bianca Lohbauer from Paarl tied in third position on 231.

The Silver Division was won by Demi Schoeman of Kloof Country Club with Cassidy Williams from Stellenbosch runner up.

The stableford Bronze Division was won by Elizabeth Curry, a new player from Port Shepstone, with Sinead Rice of Victoria Country Club the Runner up. The Copper Division was particularly exciting as it was won by Sarah Tychen (daughter of one of KZN’s past provincial players) with Meera Karsan from Newcastle runner up both of whom had never played in a Championship before.

The Nomads KZN Girls Championship was held on the beautiful Selborne Country Club course which unfortunately was only just playable due to all the heavy rain experienced over the last three weeks.

KZN President Molly Whittaker reports, “The night before the championship, torrential rain fell but we woke up to some blue sky and the rest of the weekend remained dry although humid as only Natal can be!

“We managed to play 54 holes in somewhat trying conditions. We even had one of the girls enter a bunker and sink up to her knees! Karen Olivant our referee certainly had her work cut out what with Environmentally Sensitive Areas, and flooding bridges as well as the normal rulings.”
