Brooks leads, Moralee in pursuit at BMW SA Open

Englishman Daniel Brooks was in sole possession of the lead going into round three on Saturday at the 2016 BMW SA Open Championship proudly hosted by the City of Ekurhuleni, while Cameron Moralee was the sole amateur survivor at Glendower Golf Club on Saturday.
After opening with a solid four-under par 68, Brooks completed his rain delayed second round with a five-under par 67 on Saturday morning to lead the chasing pack by one.
Brooks said, “Yeah I got out there this morning and played some really good golf. It was a bit calmer this morning and I played some nice golf.”
For a man with who says he is still rusty from not practicing during the off season, Brooks is more than happy with his opening two rounds of the championship.
“I wasn’t expecting too much coming out here this week, and I haven’t done much practicing over the last two months or so, so I’m a bit rusty but it’s going well.”
One shot back from Brooks is the massively experienced Keith Horne.
With a flawless, bogey-free round of three-under 69 on Friday, Horne seems to be playing some of his best golf.
“I was trying to get to 10-under, but it was tough out there,” Horne said. “Whether the guys go past me or not, there are still two days to go and like I said, I’m very happy with eight-under after two days.”
Jbe’ Kruger and Branden Grace are two off the lead in third place at seven-under par for the championship.
Ernie Els and Fancourt Foundation player Moralee carded rounds of 69 and 71 and will start his third round five off the pace.
The 17-year-old Dainfern golfer shares 14th with the likes of double US Open champion Retief Goosen, a two-time winner of the SA Open, as well as former Sanlam SA Amateur champion Laurie Canter from England, four-time IGT Tour winner and Sunshine Tour rookie Michael Palmer and Dean Burmester, a four-time Sunshine Tour winner last season.
