Bridge Junior Series winners heading to Pinehurst

2019 Bridge Fund Managers Junior Series Regional Finals winners .Casey Jarvis from Ekurhuleni & Tyran Snyders from Western Province.

13 April 2019 – Casey Jarvis and Tyran Snyders will be heading to the Junior North and South Championship at Pinehurst Resort in the United States in early July after winning the respective North and South Regjonal Finals of the 2019 Bridge Fund Managers Junior Golf Series this April.

Victory came with all expenses paid trips from Bridge Fund Managers to the prestigious event and the chance to tee it up at the iconic Number 2 course at Pinehurst.

The Number 2 course hosted its first Major – the PGA Championships – back in 1936 and has since hosted the US Open three times, as well as the Ryder Cup.

“I’m seriously stoked about going to Pinehurst. I’ve always dreamt of playing at Augusta, Pinehurst and Pebble Beach, so it’s going to be great to tick one of my boxes,” said Jarvis after his runaway victory in the 36-hole South Final.

The 15-year-old State Mines golfer fired rounds of 63 and 66 to win by 9 strokes at ERPM Golf Club on Saturday 6 April 2019.

“We play a lot of Ekurhuleni junior events at ERPM, so I know the course well,” said the GolfRSA National Squad member. “The trees funnel the wind, and if you don’t know how to handle the course in the wind, you’re going to struggle. The greens are also very fast, but they run true and if you have the right line, and you’re putting well, you can go low.

“The Bridge Fund Managers Junior Series is very popular, and we owe a huge debt to them for giving us this series and this awesome prize to play for.”

Snyders secured his trip to Pinehurst with victory in the 36-hole South Final of the Bridge Fund Managers Junior Series at King David Mowbray Golf Club on Sunday, 7 April 2019.

The Paarl Boys High matriculant got off to a flying start with a birdie at the second and he stuck a 4-iron close and boxed the eagle putt at the par five sixth. Snyders reeled in five birdies on the trot around the turn and another gain at 14 saw him lead the field with an opening a seven-under 65.

The field had their challenges in the windy afternoon conditions, but Snyders maintained his winning form and his lead went unchallenged. He signed for an even-par 72 to finish four strokes clear of 2019 Nomads SA Boys Under-19 Matchplay champion Ben van Wyk.

“The key to going low was capitalising on the good weather and on the par fives,” said Snyders, a member of Durbanville Golf Club. “The par fives are relatively short, so you can get on in two and I boxed a good number of putts.

“I was feeling a bit of pressure as the stakes were very high and I know what Ben is capable of, but with a four shot lead going down the final nine holes, I felt in control. I just had to keep mistakes to a minimum by hitting fairway and greens.

“To play an iconic golf course such as Pinehurst is a going to be a life changing experience. So many golfers dream of this, so I am very grateful to have this opportunity,”

Bridge Fund Managers Chief Executive Paul Stewart believe Jarvis and Snyders will do South Africa proud.

“Casey and Tyran both produced excellent performances to qualify for and win in their respective finals,” Stewart said. “I do believe they will make us proud at Pinehurst. They are both quality golfers and worthy representatives of the Bridge Junior Series, which continues to grow.”
