Bolander joins top ranking players to lead the field in East London
Five players scored one-over-par 74s on day one of the Women’s Golf South Africa 72 Hole Teams Championships played at East London Golf Club on Monday 25 May 2009. Two of the three scores in each team count.
Stellenbosch University student Maggie du Toit, playing in the Challenge Trophy B Division, leads the field together with Kim Williams, Marné Roos, Bertine Strauss and SA Stroke Play Champion Yvette du Plessis. In docile conditions at East London, the top players scored well but surprisingly no one came in under par.
North West A’s team of Bertine Strauss, Nicole Becker and Bonita Bredenhann leads the Swiss Teams Trophy A Division on 149 with Gauteng Daisies and Gauteng Blommies tying in second place on 150.
Assisted by Maggie du Toit’s 74, the Boland B team which included Leanke Vlok and Lynn Behagg, finished three strokes ahead of their A team on 159. Angela Trollip (79) and Millie Zim (80), playing on their home course enabled Border to join Boland B, Limpopo and Gauteng Tigers to lead the Challenge Trophy B Division.
The second and third rounds will be played over 36 holes on day two and the 72 hole teams event will be concluded on Wednesday 27 May when the final 18 holes are played.
