Blaauw and Frittelli in the Hunt

Jacques BlaauwBoth Jacques Blaauw and Dylan Frittelli are one under par after weather delayed day one of the 54 hole Barrett Amateur Championship stroke play which was played at the Algonquin Golf Course in St Andrews, New Brunswick, Canada. This placed the two South Africans in sixth place tied along with two other players.

Blaauw recorded a 70, on the par 71 layout, which included a three birdies and two bogeys. Frittelli, who still has two holes play, has one solitary birdie to his name, on hole 9, for his one under par score.

Heavy fog was experienced yesterday morning which resulted in play being suspended twice and an overall delay of four hours. Six groups are required to complete their rounds this morning.

The leaders, on 68, just two shots ahead of the two South Africans, are David Markle, of Canada, and Matt Parziale, of the United States. John Peterson of the United States, is also on three under par however he too has still to complete his first round.

Cameron Johnston, the third South African in the field, did not fare as well as his fellow country men. He recorded a first round score of 74, which included bogeys on holes 1 and 4, a double bogey on 17, a par 5, and finished with a birdie on the last hole. He is currently three over par and tied in 31st place.

The defending champion, Bill Seagris, of Canada, is well positioned in 16th place on 72, one over par.

The second and penultimate round will be played today after the first round has been concluded.
