Bianca Theron wins Nomads WP Junior Champs
With eight of the top ten ranked juniors playing, this promised to be an exciting Championship. Conditions were perfect at the picturesque Metropolitan Golf Club and after Round 1, Mae Cornforth from Potchesfstroom Golf Club led the field on two under par 68 after an up and down day with five birdies and 3 drops. She was followed closely by Bianca Theron from Devonvale Golf Club who shot a solid round 69 and Ji-Sun Kang from Atlantic Beach on level 70.
Positions changed in the second round and after the front nine Bianca was level par, Ji-Sun one shot behind and Kelly Erasmus from Durbanville Golf Club two shots adrift. Bianca pressed on to finish the tournament on two under par 138 to lift the trophy, and Ji-Sun, despite an almost flawless round could not overtake her and came in with a two over par 142. Kelly held her nerve and finished in third place on 143.
Ji-Sun Kang, who also finished second at the Boland Junior Championships earlier in the week, won the Prentice Cup as the highest placed Western Province player.
Following on from her win at the Boland Junior Championships, Cassidy Williams from Stellenbosch Golf Club won the 10 – 18 Division with a score of 153, seven shots ahead of her nearest rival, 12 year old Crystal Beukes from Somerset West Golf Club who finished on 160.
In the 19 – 26 Division Aalayah Abrahams from Rondebosch Golf Club finished on 37 points and Amore Steyn from Kuilsriver Golf Club won the 27 – 35 Division on 37 points.
