Bianca Theron cards 67 in final round at Paarl to win Junior Champs

14-year old Bianca Theron returned a second round of 67 to run away with the Boland Junior Champs played at Paarl Golf Club this week. She finished 11 strokes ahead of KZN’s Michaela Fletcher to clinch this inaugural Junior Championship on 138 (71, 67). She is seen here receiving her trophy from Pick n Pay’s Anna Dewhurst.

Overnight leader by one stroke on one-under 71 , Bianca carded her best round ever with birdies at 4, 7, 10, 11, 12, 16 and 18 and drops at 8 and 15. After turning on 35, she stormed back with growing confidence to score 32 on the back nine and pick up the trophy on 138, six under par.

Michaela Fletcher from KwaZulu Natal carded 149 (72, 77) to take the runners-up position and top-ranked SA Junior Lara Weinstein had another disappointing day to finish in third place on 151 (76, 75).

Mowbray’s Malika Allie won the 10 – 18 Division on 163 (81, 87) and to everyone’s delight, 10-year-old Chrystal Beukes from Somerset West claimed the 19 – 27 handicap C Division trophy with 83 stableford points (36, 47) – gross 94 and 87! This is a name to remember and augurs well for Boland’s future.

The D Division (27 – 33 handicaps) was won by Zilke Bal from Kuilsriver.

Boland President Charmaine Faygas welcomed players from as far away as Mpumalanga, Gauteng, KZN, Eastern Cape, Southern Cape and Western Province and also paid a special thanks to Pick n Pay’s Anna Dewhurst – a long time supporter of Boland golf for the generous sponsorship and for presenting the prizes.
