Boland President Lol Jones congratulated to Bianca on her excellent win. “Bianca was one of the favourites going into the Championship as the tournament was held on her own course Kuils River – but she had some very tough contenders to battle against.
“Ruzanne however, was happy to take the Division A nett award from Bianca by one shot. But the honours were not complete for Bianca who also won the Closed 0 – 9 and Closed 0 -18 Divisions. Father Niels was needed to carry the rewards!
“Chanré Coenraad from St. Francis Bay won the Open B Division Gross prize with a score of 171 from Stellenbosch junior Cassidy Williams (177). Chystal Beukes from Somerset West, who shot a nett 67 on her eleventh birthday on Thursday, went on to win the Division B nett award with 146, five shots better than her nearest contender. Cassidy won the Closed 10 – 18 Division.
“Kuils River junior member, Zilke Bal won the Open C Division for handicap 19 – 27 with 78 stableford points beating runner-up 10-year old Cara Ford from Eagle Canyon, Gauteng, by 14 points! Local knowledge and a home turf can be an advantage!
“In the Open D Division for handicaps 27 – 33, Sarah Osborn who hails from Westlake beat local Boland Junior, Megan O’Grady from Somerset West, with 76 stableford points over Megan’s 69. Megan was a happy young lady as, playing in her first tournament, she also secured second position in the Closed 19 – 33 category from winner Zilke Bal.
“This year we had over fifty entrants into this ‘now must play’ Junior Tournament. Kuils River golf course is constructed on the sands of the Cape Flats and is truly an interesting course which demands good course management, especially when the wind blows!
“I thank all at Kuils River for their generous and friendly support. I would also like to extend my deepest gratitude to title sponsors Pick n Pay who have continued to be generous and loyal supporters of golf in Boland. Coming on board as sponsors for the first time were Swing Fit Academy, based at Pearl Valley where the SA Girls’ Rose Bowl will be played on 2 and 3 April.”
