Bertine wins in Gauteng

Bertine Strauss won her first provincial stroke play championship of 2009 with a three-under-par 143, two strokes ahead of junior rival Connie Chen on one-under-par 145 . This is to add to the six stroke play wins she had in 2008.

Played on the par 73 Bryanston Country Club course on 11 May, the Gauteng Stroke Play Championships attracted 50 players in the 9 and under Championship Division. Bertine’s first round 69 was the low round of the tournament with Marne Roos’ two-under-par 70 also an excellent score. Roos finished in third position on even par 146. SA Match Play Champion, Swaziland’s Nobihle Dlamini tied fourth with Kim Williams, both on 150.

The Match Play, including the top 32 players, commences today.
