Bertine wins Gauteng North Match Play Championship

Bertine Strauss, on vacation from her US College, won the Gauteng North Match Play Championship when she defeated Namibian Bonita Bredenhann 2/1 in the 18 hole final played at Irene Country Club today. She is pictured here with the Stroke Play Champion, Kim Williams.

On her way to the final, the champion picked up wins over Euganie Clack 5/4, Magda Krüger6/4 and Carrie Park 2/1.

Bonita recorded victories over Marné Clack 4/3, Lejan Lewthwaite 3/2 and Kim Williams at the 19th to eventually lose to Bertine in the final.

The 10 – 18 B Division was won by Boland’s Cassidy Williams who defeated another Boland junior, Crystal Beukes 4/2.

The next event on the WGSA calendar is the SA Amateur Championships which kicks of with the 36 hole qualifying round on Sunday 8 July at Benoni Country Club.
