Ashleigh Holmes moves on to Pro Ranks

Popular Southern Cape golfer, Ashleigh Holmes, aka Beaut, ranked sixth in the October WGSA Ranking, has decided to go the teaching route and is currently in the process of applying to the PGA of South Africa.

Thanking WGSA President, Erica Lefson, Ashleigh writes, “It has been an honour to have played for SA in Botswana ’07, Turkey ’08, Swaziland ’09 and again in Turkey this year. Thank you to you and all the Executives who put endles hours into the running of tournaments. I will no longer play in any amateur events as I have taken a position at Kenako Golf Academy and Kingswood as a Teaching Professional.”

An all-round sportswomen, in addition to representing her province at all WGSA Inter-Provincial events since 2007, 25 year old Ashleigh represented Southern Cape at tennis, played first team tennis and hockey in high school for four years and was ranked number one in shotput in the Southern Cape for four years in a row.

A team player of note, she will be missed in the SA amateur ranks. However she has an enormous contribution to make in teaching young golfers the physical skills of golf but also to become team players and to experience the enjoyment of playing golf. Her positive attitude to the game and to life in general will be an inspiration to all who fall under her tutorship.

Highlights of Ashleigh’s past two years include winning the Turkish Amateur Championship in 2008, runner-up in the 2008 SA Amateur Stroke Play and Western Province Stroke Play, runner-up in the 2009 Eastern Cape and Southern Cape Stroke lay and runner-up to the winner of the Amateur Trophy in the 2009 SA Women’s Open Championship.
