Africa Golf Confederation events postponed
The Africa Golf Confederation (AGC) announced today that all tournaments held under the auspices of the AGC will be postponed until further notice due to the ongoing threat posed by the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) and the increasing spread of the virus through Africa.
This includes the 2020 All-Africa Junior Golf Teams Championship, scheduled to take place at the Palm Hills Golf Course in Egypt and All Africa Women’s Golf Championship at the end of March and the Africa Region 5 Golf Tournament, which was scheduled for Angola in April.
South African Golf Association President and AGC Vice-President Naadir Agherdien says the postponement rather than cancellation leaves the door open to host the tournaments later in the year.
“The health, safety and well-being of the players, officials and volunteers is of the utmost importance and has to take first priority in this time of uncertainty. Should the situation around Covid 19 improve, we will look at dates later in the year.
“We will continue to monitor the situation and take guidance from our respective governments and if there is no significant improvement, we will consider cancelling the tournaments for this year and for the 2020 host nations to host the events in 2021.”
