Ace helps Herselman to second round at SA Amateur

Many club golfers never achieve the much coveted hole-in-one, much less under pressure in tournament play, but Anel Herselman managed to get her first on her way to winning her first A-Flight match in the Sanlam Women’s SA Amateur Match Play Championship.

The 18-year-old from Pretoria aced the par-three 17th at Rustenburg Golf Club on her way to knocking Elzanne Kent from Free State out of the competition.

“I hit an eight-iron from 142 meters and just saw it plop into the hole,” said the thrilled teenager. “It was my first hole-in-one, but I think my dad was even more excited than me. He was bouncing up and down behind the green. All I could care about was getting ahead of Elzanne and staying ahead.”

This was the second hole-in-one achieved during this championship – former Springbok cricketer Johmari Logtenberg aced her tee shot at the 13th during the first round of the stroke play.
