4 South African Players contest Welsh Open Amateur
Four of South Africa’s amateur golfers take on the 72 hole Welsh Open Amateur Stroke Play Championship which starts at Conwy Golf Club, in a town in North Wales of the same name, on Friday. The four players are Jacques Blaauw, Derik Ferreira, Lyle Rowe and Trevor Muggeridge.
The 22 year old SA Amateur Stroke Play and Glacier SA Amateur champion from Paarl, Jacques Blaauw, will be looking to improve on his 18th place finish in last week’s Brabazon Trophy.
Derik Ferreira, the 19 year old Centurion Country Club member, who missed the cut by one stroke in the Brabazon Trophy, will be looking to make it through to the final round in this event. He, like Blaauw, has been selected to play for the Protea team in a test match against France next week, this event being his last opportunity to prepare.
Lyle Rowe, 20 year old Port Elizabeth Golf Club member, and Trevor Muggeridge, of Glendower Golf Club, are the other players participating.
All players contest the first two rounds, to be played on Friday and Saturday, after which there is a cut to 36th place and ties. All players making the cut contest the final two rounds, which will both be played on Sunday 25th May.
