Solid start for SA in Olympic Team’s Event
The South African team are well placed after the first round of the Mixed Gender Team Event at the Summer Youth Olympics in Nanjing, China.

Durbanville golfer Ian Snyman edged out Limpopo junior Hennie du Plessis to claim the Southern Cape Open at Mossel Bay Golf Club on Sunday.
The victory came exactly two years after the 19-year-old Province golfer was leading the same event, but was pipped at the post by a birdie finish from Sipho Bujela at George Golf Club.

Over the last six weeks, the 22-year-old Randpark golfer won the Gauteng North Match Play, reached the final of women amateur golf’s flagship event and put an exclamation mark on a productive holiday with a podium finish at the Ekurhuleni 54-Hole Stroke Play Championship.

South Africa’s top ranked amateurs Christiaan Bezuidenhout and Zander Lombard crashed out of the prestigious US Amateur Championship with mixed results at the Atlanta Athletic Club in Georgia.
British Amateur finalist Lombard reached the top 64, while Ernie Els and Fancourt Foundation member Bezuidenhout failed to make the cut the 36-hole Stroke Play qualifier.

SA juniors Kaleigh Telfer and Kyle McClatchie joined other young Olympians at the send-off celebrations for the Summer Youth Olympic Games in Johannesburg on Monday.
The 50-strong Team SA departed for China this morning where they will join more than 5,000 athletes from around the globe for the games in Nanjing.

Curro Aurora protected their overnight advantage to claim a runaway victory at the Ernie Els SA Primary Schools Championship at Middelburg Country Club on Sunday.
The Randburg team stretched a 10 stroke lead to an unchallenged 21 stroke victory over the defending champions St Dunstan’s College at the Mpumalanga course.

Curro Aurora from Gauteng took a commanding 10 stroke lead in the first round of the Ernie Els SA Primary Schools Championship at Middelburg Country Club in Mpumalanga on Saturday. Alex van der Merwe, Cole Stevens and Woo-Ju Son combined for an opening 218 to leave defending champions, St Dunstan’s College, a distant second.
Els aids juniors to compete, learn and have fun
In a career spanning 25 years, former world number one Ernie Els has won four majors, claimed 67 podium finishes around the globe and was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in May 2011.
Els is also the driving force behind the Ernie Els Primary School Championship. The fourth edition of this national team championship tees off at Middelburg Country Club in Mpumalanga from 9-10 August.
