Scots beat SA at home
South Africa’s top amateurs failed to take the sting out of a home defeat at the Leopard Trophy earlier this year when they lost 11 – 7 to the Scots in a two-day test at Western Gailes Golf Club on Thursday.

The South African team lagged one shot behind Kenya after an opening round 146, however Fletcher’s 73 and a 75 from Gorlei handed the defending champions an eight shot lead over the host nation at the Muthaiga Golf Club in Nairobi.

Modderfontein’s Marco Steyn drained an eagle putt at the 18thhole of the East Course at Royal Johannesburg and Kensington to seal a one-stroke victory in the ProShop Northern Amateur Stroke Play Championship on Monday.

Cara Gorlei was the only player to dip below par on a tough scoring day at the All-Africa Challenge Trophy (AACT), and her superb effort not only launched South Africa’s title defence, but lifted the team within striking distance of first round leaders Kenya on Tuesday.
SA trio ready for AACT showdown

Pretoria’s Kruger and Fletcher from KwaZulu-Natal are second and third respectively on the current WGSA Senior Rankings, while Gorlei from the Western Province is ranked sixth on the senior standings and second on the junior rankings.
