Connie Chen wins first event of the year
With consistent rounds of par 72 and one over 73, Waterkloof's 17-year old Connie Chen won the first women's event of the year - the Gauteng North Junior Championships - played at Service golf Club on Sunday 24 January.

Greta Badenhorst passed away today
WGSA regrets to advise that Greta Badenhorst, Past President of Western Province and who served on the SA National Executive from 1995 to 1996 passed away suddenly today at the age of 77.
Courtenay James is top kid at Eagle Canyon
12 year-old Courtenay James came first in the U.S. Kids World Qualifier at Eagle Canyon Golf Club in JHB on the weekend. This is the third year in a row that she has won her age division.
Frittelli misses the cut in Joburg Open
Dylan Frittelli did not capitalise on his excellent first round score in the Joburg Open, played at Royal Johannesburg & Kensington Golf Club, in Johannesburg over the weekend. He recorded a second round of 76, five over par, and missed the 36 hole cut.
SA’s First Referees School announced
The first-ever Referees School to be hosted by the South African Golf Association (SAGA) will be held at Alphen Country House and Steenberg Golf Club in Cape Town next year, from Friday the 12th to Sunday the 14th of March.

A fine 68, three under par, by nineteen year old Dylan Frittelli made him the leading amateur after yesterday’s first round of the Joburg Open being played at the Royal Johannesburg and Kensington Golf Club.
SAGDB girls accepted for residential scholarships at HPC, Pretoria
14 Year old Zanele Mazibuko and 17 year old Ntsoaki Mokoena from Phuthaditjhaba in Qwa-Qwa, Free State have been accepted on the Department of Sport & Recreation’s residential scholarship at the High Performance Centre Academy in Pretoria.
Sherratt wins; Claassen best of SA players
Jordan Sherratt, the 21 year old South Australia, won the 72 hole stroke play NEC Master of the Amateurs Championship after a playoff against Bud Cauley of the United States. JG Claassen finsihes 25th tie, the best performing South African player.

A two over par 74 in the third round of the NEC Master of the Amateurs Championship played at the Yarra Yarra Golf Club, in Melbourne, Australia, yesterday, was South Africa’s JG Claassens’ best round of the tournament.

Kim lying fourth in the Mexican Cham[ionships
Kim Williams and Iliska Verwey competed in the first round of the Mexican Womens' Amateur Championship under pressure having lost their luggage en route from Johannesburg to Mexico. Kim is tied in fourth place on 74, but Iliska did not find the going easy, finishing on 81.
Heat takes its toll as SA players struggle in Australia
The weather was the talking point at the end of the first round of the NEC Master of the Amateurs Championship, played yesterday at the Yarra Yarra Golf Club in Melbourne, Australia. Two South Africans toiled bravely, Knoll (73) and Claassen (76).
